Simbios, the Center for Physics-based Simulation of Biological Structures, is one of eight national centers funded by the National Institutes of Health to build a biomedical-computing infrastructure to speed progress in biomedical research. A key element of that infrastructure is our public project hosting website Simtk.org, which has grown to over 11,000 members and nearly 400 projects in just a few years. The center is seeking a visionary web engineer with knowledge of the latest web technologies and trends to continue enhancing the site and help transform it into an undisputable national biomedical simulation resource.

Simtk.org members are world-class biocomputational scientists whose research projects can present unique challenges for the site, such as the sharing of very large data sets. The Senior Web Developer will be responsible for implementing innovative, effective solutions to meet member needs and for maintaining all aspects of the site in terms of functionality, usability, reliability, and security. In collaboration with the Simbios Director of Dissemination, the developer will lead the design and development of effective social networking systems and other technologies to enable and motivate Simtk.org members to support each other in a true online community. This individual is willing and able to do whatever is necessary to continuously improve Simtk.org
users' experience while maintaining the extremely high levels of reliability necessary to earn and retain user trust.

The ideal candidate is an engaged, active, and disciplined software engineer with excellent website development and design skills who fulfills the following requirements:

This is a four-year fixed position that would be extended if funding permits.
