Life update

Had a busy but generally good week and weekend.
Highlight of the past week:
I went to a master class taught by Thomas Hampson, baritone extraordinare, up in San Francisco Wednesday night. It consisted of four students from San Francisco Conservatory each singing an aria and then Hampson working with each of them for ~40-45 minutes. The time spent with each student meant that we were in the city till 10:30, but it was well worth it; it was kind of remarkable how much better each of them sounded at the end of their lesson. I came away with some good tips which I'm starting to put into practice.
Lowlight of the week:
Fluffy went to the (relatively local, up in San Mateo) oncologist who he's seen before for a recurrent spot on his nose. The biopsies have always come back as benign, but he had his last remove-the-spot surgery just back in March, which seemed like an awfully quick recurrence. So we have to take him up to dratted Davis early next week so he can have a bit of strontium-90 next to his nose for a while to burn the offending tissue off. *sigh* Fluffy is clearly our medically needy/expensive cat of the current set.
(In a kitty side note, last night we forgot that Penelope Cat knows how to open the screen door if we leave it unlatched and unattended. One of the two indoor-only cats is still outside, and it may take a day or Huz was able to pick up Penelope and carry her back in without any fuss.)
Weekend:
We went to see the last showing of TheatreWorks' production of Sense and Sensibility. It was utterly charming, though Marianne was perhaps a little overdone. My thought coming away from it was that some days, it sucks to be an empath.
I bought a bottle of Torani strawberry syrup a couple of weeks ago to add to my homemade seltzer, and have generally been less than impressed with the results. Too little syrup, and I can't taste any difference. Too much, and it tastes like cough syrup. But I remembered when I was a girl, I'd get these drinks called raspberry lime rickeys at the local Baskin-Robbins. I looked up a recipe on the web, substituted strawberry syrup for raspberry and lime juice for an actual lime, and now I have a very refreshing and quite pleasant sparkling drink. (Of course, I also like to add a dollop of lime juice to seltzer all on its own, so that might have something to do with it.)
For those following my video game progress, in KOTOR I'm still on Taris, though I'm almost done. I beat Twitch in the dueling ring on my own merits! (But it took reading some discussions to beat Bendak Starkiller.) Now I'm ready to get off this rock and on to the next planet. Jedi-hood, here I come!
