Question for the Interwebs about Netflix

My husband and I are considering signing up for streaming Netflix.  I've poked a little bit at their selections and am impressed, but slightly skeptical.  While looking for a different film (which they don't seem to have), _The Pirates! Band of Misfits_ came up... which is still playing at my local theater, having only opened a month ago.

I note that there isn't any indication as to _when_ it will be available on Netflix, nor yet whether it'll be available as a stream, disc, or both.  WTH?

How far can I trust the not-yet-a-member browsing feature?  What's your experience with streaming Netflix and its catalog?

I used to subscribe to Netflix streaming, but do no longer, though I still get DVDs from them. I found that their selection of streaming video does not match up to the selection of DVDs. When they announced their split service last spring, (i.e. that the DVD service would be spun off), I dropped the streaming like a hot potato. If they were going to force me to manage two queues, I was going to look at alternative venues. Of the two, the DVD service had more of what I wanted to watch. Believe it or not, i find Hulu Plus to have better selection for less money. I still subscribe to Netflix DVD because it is an easy way to get the dvds I want, but I should check out the local DVD store now that I live in a neighborhood that has a good one.

Hope this helps!

Thanks! Your assessment matches others we've gotten; I think overall the library is actually our best bet! (good collection peninsula-wide, 75 cents hold fee, it generally comes in within a week, and you can keep it up to 3 weeks including renewals)
