Our cat Penny bit the vet last week in a fit of terror.  We've baked a batch of chocolate chip cookies for him, and I enclosed the following note (more or less; I cursed myself about two seconds after sealing the envelope)

Dear [vet],

I am very sorry I bit you last week.  I was very scared but I am still sorry.  I asked my humans how I could apologize to you and they said what about a nice gift and I thought I could give you my favorite catnip toy even though that would be hard for me but they thought you would like cookies better. I hope you like the cookies and I am very sorry.

I've got a tumblr account that I'm using mostly for embroidery stuff (at any rate that's the plan); my username is ceastman73.  onyoukai, I think you said you had a tumblr?  What's the address?

My tumblr username is kingoftreno. Once in a blue moon I'll post something related to cats or crafts there.

I lurk a lot, though my reasons for rarely posting in Tumblr are the same for rarely posting in LJ: school + work has kept me very busy, and I haven't had a whole lot of time for blogging or craft stuff. In fact, my Tumblr is neglected more than LJ is, because Tumblr is just for cat, craft, and non-controversial fandom stuff. (I'll cackle with malicious glee about the FF7 HD port here on LJ, but I don't feel like dealing with reply threads from ridiculous FF7 fans that would undoubtedly get all butthurt and try to fight with me on Tumblr. Ain't nobody got time for that.)

I completely agree! I can barely keep up with the stuff I follow on tumblr, and having read the reblogged conversations with some people... yeah, crazy fandom I do not need.

In general, I try to keep the majority of what I post publicly fairly uncontroversial - I take seriously the idea that future employers, the government, whoever, can, will, and do look at my public profile. Also, yeah, the trolls.

Yep, exactly. That's why I have tons of privacy settings enabled on LJ and default my entries to friends-only. I make a deliberate determination when to lift that barrier, because I'm a private, cynical person. Tumblr doesn't have any privacy settings; everything is public. The only protection one has is the fact that Tumblr doesn't require you to use your real name and you can be anonymous.

I check it regularly, but I make it a policy to only scroll so far down otherwise it becomes an endless vortex. There are some days where my feed gets bombarded and there's no way I'll end up able to read it all.

Yes, I noticed the no-privacy settings. Hence, the decision of "well, maybe this is where I'll stick stuff about my hobby, and probably mostly technical stuff that most people will be bored silly by."

Also, I have all of one follower, so it's not like the world is all that interested!

Oh, you know, Tumblr's search is REALLY weird. I've noticed that it only seems to search for keywords in a really specific way. It only seems to search for post tags in a really specific way, and I never tag my posts with my username, so maybe that's why? Unless they did introduce a secret time filter more recently.
