Today was overall quite nice, with some excitement scattered here and there.

The tree guys showed up around 8:30 this morning to do some serious cutbacks on our backyard trees.  They requested that we move the cars out of the driveway (as I discovered later, it would be filled with branches to be fed to their tree-eating machine).  I moved my car, and when Huz got out of the shower, I asked him to move his.  He doesn't drive his car much, and it turned out the battery had died - sigh.  I moved my car back near the driveway, jumped him, and re-moved the car.  A few minutes later, he comes back inside cursing: he didn't let it run quite long enough before putting the thing in gear, and it had died *again.*  Wash, wince, wepeat.  The car was left running for considerably longer this time, and was moved successfully.  I'm thinking that putting a reminder on my Gmail calendar for Huz to start his dratted car once every 3-4 weeks would not go amiss.  He went to work on the train, I stayed home.

I spent a good chunk of the morning playing FFT:A2, as noted earlier.  Took a shower, practiced, had lunch, and checked my email.  There I found something I'd completely forgotten about, namely that the child of some Boston friends had been in the area doing a special summer camp, and was due to fly back today.  The first leg of his flight had been delayed by an hour, cutting his connection time in Salt Lake City a little short.  There was an email advising me that I might have to pick him up at San Jose, entertain him and/or put him up until a rescheduled flight.  That made life kind of exciting for the next hour and a half or so.  He did get on his first leg, as it turned out the arrival and departure gates at SLC were literally next door to each other.  If he isn't safe in Boston yet, he will be soon.

The tree guys finished and left without notifying me, which I wasn't expecting.  I trust we'll receive a bill soon.

I went to the grocery and got stuff for dal for dinner (yay lentils!) as well as stuff like flour to make these tea muffins.  I also gave into temptation and got one local peach that smelled and felt relatively promising.  (Only the one, as we haven't had good luck with stonefruit in the past couple of weeks.)  When I got home and had gotten the groceries sort of put away, I indulged in that rarest and most wonderful of activities: I took a nap!  A very good thing, as I've been rather lacking on the sleep thing recently.

Got up, had really good vanilla ice cream with half of the peach, which turned out to be very tasty.  (Saved the other half for Huz, who had it with ice cream when he got home.  Will get more peaches tomorrow.)  The muffins were easy to make and are pleasant, though I'm not tasting much in the way of tea flavor.  It might not help that I used some loose-leaf Ginger Peach tea that I've had since... umm... well, a really long time.  The rest of the muffin recipe would be a fine base for all manner of additions, I expect.

I also watched about a quarter of Batman and Robin, which a friend lent to us.  What an amazingly silly film - it's very much like watching a comic book written by a smartass come to life.  Most of the big-name actors (Schwarzenegger, Uma Thurman) know perfectly well that this isn't serious art, but can't quite decide whether to ham up their bits to the max or deliver their lines as if they are merely messengers forced to repeat slighly inane material.  On the plot side, note to self: if you indulge in Mad Science, try not to get soaked in your own goop.  Bad stuff happens.  Though I fail to see how a cryogenic solution can *mutate* the individual... At any rate, now that I *look* at the IMDB page, I can understand why it's got an overall rating of 3.5/10.  Might be better watched if drunk.

Soon it will be bedtime!  And then it will be the weekend!  Skating, Harry Potter, and sleep, yay!
