What didn't get done:

- vaccuuming
- yard work, including:
     - hedge trimming
     - (new to list!) rosebush pruning

What did get done:

- singing concert Friday night
- singing memorial mass Saturday afternoon
- seeing my brother at the local airport (long layover for business travel)
- going shopping!

A big thank you to everyone who's given us Barnes & Noble and Borders gift cards over about the last three years ([personal profile] hoshikage and [profile] haamel especially); we finally used them!
Here's what we went and bought:

CDs:
    Soundtracks:
Nine - Maury Yeston, who also wrote the music for the other Phantom.  We listened to this last night.  Wonderful wonderful music... splendid for female leads, there's something like 18 of 'em.
Grand Hotel - The huz saw this last October.  I didn't 'cuz I was sick, but he liked it a lot.
Jane Eyre - We saw this a few years ago when one of the local theater companies did it.
How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying - starring Matthew Broderick.  I was treated to a listen of this by a friend back in college, and enjoyed it a lot
Ennio Morricone with Love  - We know him from the soundtrack to Cinema Paradiso and The Mission, but he's probably most famous for the various spaghetti westerns he scored, including Once Upon A Time In the West.  Wonderfully tuneful composer, looking forward to getting to know more of his stuff.
Oscar and Steve, a collection of Hammerstein and Sonheim songs sung by the versatile and incredible Mandy Patinkin.  Better yet, I don't think this CD has *any* repeats of stuff we've got him singing on other CDs!

    Classical:
Respighi Pini/Feste/Fontane di Roma with Lorin Maazel with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.  We've been meaning to get these for years, probably ever since [personal profile] julianyap showed us the flying whale sequence set to Pini di Roma.
Elgar Violin Concerto and Enigma Variations with Sir Edward Elgar conducting the London Symphony and Royal Albert Hall Orchestras, and Yehudi Menuin as soloist.  Another classic that we just didn't have.  We initially met one of the major themes from The Enigma Variations in his not-terribly-well-known choral piece The Music Makers, which we sang some years ago.  And hey, it's Menuhin playing.
Puccini Great Opera Arias with Placido Domingo, Kiri Te Kanawa, and Renata Scotto, soloists.  It certainly sounds as if it ought to be good!

DVDs:  Both Studio Ghibli releases (surprise!).
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind - We have a collection of Studio Ghibli releases that were grabbed off the Anime Network, probably fan-subbed.  We've been particularly looking forward to the Disney release of this one due to both the increased visual clarity of the the release, and because the subtitles on our other copy frequently flicker past too quickly to read.
My Neightbors the Yamadas - This is one of relatively few full-length Studio Ghibli releases  that wasn't in the collection we've got.  We can see it now!

Looking forward to many evenings of media entertainment now.  :)
