I've been messing with our new NexusOne to see how capably it mimics the functions of a desktop - most notably, how can I post/email/whatever pictures that we'll take with the phone in New Zealand?

The answer seems to be, not very easily.  The LiveJournal apps (including LJ's mobile site) only allow text posts.  This is fine in and of itself- it'll be great to say to the world, "Whee, we're in Auckland!" or wherever.  I don't know whether it's even possible to put in hyperlinks.  (Even if it were, there appears to be no cut-and-paste function in this phone, or copy image location, or whatever.)  Buzz's mobile version, while having its own cool tricks (see Buzz generated nearby!  attach your location to your post!), does not allow you to upload photos from Picasa.  Neither does the Gmail application.

The only way I've seen thus far to get photos out to people using only the mobile is to go to Picasa, share an album, and address it to, e.g. buzz@google.com.  Even that hasn't come through yet; it seems to have saved that email as a draft in my Drafts box.  I went to the Drafts box on the Nexus and hit Send, but we'll see how soon and whether it comes up.

Does anyone know of a Droid application to directly upload the pictures the phone takes to, e.g. an email or something??  I'm going to be peeved if there's no way of doing it easily.

If you look in my LJ archives, you'll see a post where I list a lot of Droid apps I kove: they should all work on the N1 as well given thety're both Android phones. If you get nothing else, get K9 email so you don't have to route all binary mail through Google. As for LJ, I actually recommend NOT using an LJ app, and just accessing the site directly w/ the browser. You should be able to get at the "full" version and upload images from the N1's filesystem as you would Windows.

We should exchange more notes, since I've been Droiding for months now. =)

That would be very excellent!

I have since found (blush) that the Camera app can upload to an email. And that, now that I've told the phone to sync all my accounts (it wasn't at first, to save battery) that Buzz will automatically catch my Picasa uploads.

I hadn't thought of going to the regular website; I'd been using an app and LJ's mobile site, which is (natch) plain-vanilla text entry. I'll take a look at your post - Huz already downloaded FileManager.

One of our sources of 'argh!' is that, because we got the unlocked N1, we're using just wireless to connect 99.9% of the time. (We both have pay-as-you-go plans, as neither of us actually uses the cell much, and they're compatible with the unlocked N1.) Given our one attempt to use GoogleMaps for on-the-road directions, it seems like it downloads its maps on the go from the cellular network - after we'd traveled about a mile from home, we had a pretty purple line directing us through a featureless black field. *sigh*

We're looking forward to using it lots fairly soon. :) Any tips and tricks you feel inclined to pass along will likely be appreciated!

Bah. Going to the regular browser version of LJ and attempting to put in pics via the HTML entry window gives me an 'Uploads Disabled' sort of message. Also, none of the standard formatting options seem to be available in the Rich Text entry window; can't even seem to enter text there.

Any clues what might be going on?

nevermind. Lots of people seem to have this issue with the N1, and nobody's got a solution. Drat!
