WUSD 2: Sunday March 7
Mar. 7th, 2010 07:37 pmHi everyone! We slept pretty well last night - one more decent night's sleep and I'll be a pretty happy camper. Yesterday felt like it was about three days long: one day of arriving at the airport and waiting for it to get light, one day spent at the local aquarium, and one bumming around downtown looking at souvenir shops. The aquarium was small but pretty neat - look up Kelly Tarlton's Aquatic Adventure if you like. (It was also a little full of itself, as you might guess from the name of the place!) There's a photo from it in the Picasa album. We met an interesting guy from Toronto there, and basically did the whole aquarium with him and went for lunch together afterwards.
Stuff we've noticed about Auckland:
- Hilly! Kind of like Berkeley.
- Surprisingly common footwear: sandals, clogs, flip-flops, and other open-toed shoes.
- American fast-food chains: many (McDs, BK, KFC, etcetera)
- Most common restaurants: Chinese and Japanese, by a wide margin
Off to Rangitoto today!
