Stuff and things
Oct. 15th, 2010 09:31 pm• We saw a mutant robin yesterday! It was robin-sized and robin-shaped, and had the red breast and (mostly) dark back, but its head was white, speckled with gray! It was really neat. It looked like it might have had a white feather in one of its wings as well. It was hanging out on a lawn at Stanford with a traditional-colored robin, so it was pretty easy to compare.
• We successfully painted over the plaster patch in the bedroom that got put over the old hole where the furnace used to be. We ended up doing pretty well on the paint match - it's just very slightly darker than the surrounding color, and doesn't catch the eye at all, really. Still have to paint the much larger patch on the living room side, plus put new molding in on the bottom.
• We bought a flea trap and set it up yesterday. No sign of fleas on the sticky pad yet. The light is rather bright. We are rather dubious.
• I have had a lot of tasty pizza today, first from Pizza Chicago (where a friend took me for a birthday lunch) and then leftover Paxti's (which my lab ordered for lunch today in celebration of "We made a big batch of competent cells yesterday!"). I did not eat very much for dinner.
• Author Robin McKinley has a blog, which she updates regularly. She consistently manages to sound like an extremely well-educated, yet exceedingly energetic, fifteen-year-old. With copious footnootes. (The copiousness (and content) of the footnotes manages to stay on the right side of the boundary between charming and annoying, but YMMV.)
• Busy weekend ahead - high school reunion for Huz on Saturday night (we're both going) and then lots of church stuff for me Sunday (regular church in the AM, then rehearsal and evensong service in the afternoon. Then I've got another Berkeley run scheduled for much of next week, followed by the departmental retreat. Whee.
• But it's the weekend. So that's fine. :)
