We just discovered a black widow spider in the corner of our front lawn.  She's not doing much of anything at the moment, but we'd really prefer to remove her.  Permanently.  And quickly.  (Like tomorrow, in the daytime.)  We don't want any of the cats to get bitten for their curiosity.

Google has not been much help thus far; everything seems to be for preventing their settlement in the first place.  While the huz or I will be paying OSH a visit tomorrow, it'd be great to have some ideas.  Anyone?

If you are set on killing her, I suggest apologizing to her and then squishing her with a spade. But if you think there's a chance you can live and let live, maybe she won't bother the cats. Where there's one there are likely others, so the cats are probably encountering her cousins on a regular basis in your neighborhood as they roam. At my house in Mountain View I had one that lived in the lantern by the door, whom I just got used to having there. But I don't know what the chances are that your cats will leave her alone, so...

I'll do my new-age witchy thing and ASK her to leave your cats alone and to consider moving to a different location, for what it's worth.
