Re: Wave Race: We recently also picked up a copy and have been having much fun. I suggest trying around with different racers. I found that the pink racer is much, much easier for beginners (turning is much easier with her). I was able to beat the normal difficulty using her, and to open up the extra race on hard. However, she has a low top speed, so I've now switched to the third racer, with slightly customized control, to try to beat the hard circuit. I don't think I would ever be able to beat the hard circuit with the pink racer, let alone the expert circuit.
