Umph.  Decided to poke my nose into the Cave of Ordeals, and just see what it was about.  Had: close to 60 arrows, 30 reg bombs, 15 water bombs, 10 bombchu (has anyone found *anywhere* these things are useful??), 2 fairy-in-bottle, 1 Great Fairy Tears bottle.  And 19 full heart containers, and a full 600-rupee wallet.

First 10 rooms: Totally no problem.  Actually, very few problems till, oh, room #35 or so, where you hit four of the ice skeletons in a room.  That hurt.  Ice skeletons+ice demons=also kind of hurt, but I'd been reminded how to deal with each by then.  More minor owies here and there.

Then room #39 - the two knights.  Geez.  Talk about need for taaaaaactiiiiiics.. and having *both* bottles of Fairy go off during the battle.  (Having wondered for quite a while, now I know: a fairy heals you 8 hearts if it goes off automatically as well as if you activate it.)  Reached the fourth Spring With The Great Fairy Who Doesn't Actually Heal You and thus converted the fourth upper-world spring to a Little Fairy Spring.  Whoopee; I knew where to get me fairies aboveground already (though I will happily admit that the effect is kind of pretty).

Room #41: Maaaaaannnnny animated statues.  Like, 8 or 9 (I managed to destroy one with a bomb arrow; the other bomb arrows I shot off merely activated them, and I only had about 20 left, so I didn't want to waste any).   They crowded me, and I did die.

Will I bother going back?  Dunno.  I learned a couple of things: the ball'n'chain can be used against the laser beam statues, and *only* the ball'n'chain is effective against the ice skeletons.  But my overall impression is that the difficulty ramps up hugely after roughly room 35 or so.  Number of enemies increases; difficulty of enemies increases.  Don't want to think about what it'd be like to fight more than two of those dratted knights!  And while it'd be cool bragging rights to finish it, I'm guessing that I don't really need to have Great Fairy Tears in the pools upstairs.  I can always pay 100 rupees to fill a bottle with blue (=heal all hearts) potion, which is similar to Great Fairy Tears.

I wonder vaguely about how much of the dungeon resets if you use the Great Fairy to go back to the surface world.  Can you just waltz through the rooms up to the point that you departed?  Do the rupees and hearts I found in a few floors come back, or are they gone for good?  It might be worth redoing the first 10 rooms to find the answer to the first question, anyway.  *If* the monsters stay gone, then I'd consider exiting at, say, room 40, restocking and healing up, and then going back in.  But I'm betting it doesn't.

..Oh.  And I won the first part of the snowboarding race.  Dang, Yeta is faaaaaaaast!

Oh, and Tuesday I started Hyrule Castle.  What's with this silly 'fight bunches in an arena space b/f proceeding' business?  Have key, can go inside the building now!

Total playtime today: just shy of, um, 2 hours.
