amethyst73• Work last week went pretty well! I picked up new primers for RT-PCR from my buddies in Berkeley, and the vast majority of them produce bands of appropriate size. :) (Colonies from Topo cloning.. not so much. But there's ways around that.) I am about to start another four-day stint of doing sequencing stuff up at BDGP. Woo. But it'll be data, and will hopefully give me happy clones. :)
• While I'm in Berkeley, we'll have contractors installing central heating in our house! Yay! This replaces the wall furnace which heated much of the house kinda okay (better, once we installed the ceiling fan in the living room), but the bedroom almost not at all. The wall furnace main opening is into the living room, and there's a tiny little window into the bedroom as well, which admits but little heat. And we keep the bedroom door closed ~100% of the time to exclude cats. The new system will be forced-air into all main rooms, AND it'll have a whole-house HEPA filter in the hallway, AND an attic fan set to automatically exhaust when the attic temp reaches 100°, so the house will stay cooler in the summer.
• Crystal Bearers continues to be pretty fun. Note to self: When Goldenrod appears, be prepared for a long action sequence with no automatic saves in the middle! Well, now I know. And the 'knock the girl off the balance thing in the water' minigame was not won by me. Pulling stuff in the background didn't seem to have any real effect on the action, so hrmph. But when the game gives you free rein to mess about and explore and stuff, it's fun. I can *almost* kill all the monsters in the Costa Whazzit area before the stream closes... (One weird thing: the way you get more life counters is by killing random monsters in an area and closing their entry hole before a timer runs out. Some areas don't have timers, so it's definitely worthwhile to close those. But I've only had two 'boss fights' as such, and no reward other than, okay, proceed with plot.
• What else? Pettable kitty on my lap. Singing a solo in church this Sunday. Life's pretty good.
