I seem to be posting with an average frequency of about once a week these days. All that means, really, is that life is not hectic/stressful enough for me to post about it (which is good), nor is it exciting enough for me to post about it Right This Instant, which frankly is also fine. That's not to say that some good things haven't happened; they're just more everyday kinds of good things than, say, the day a cousin who'd grown fond of my parents gave each member of my family the maximum allowable gift one can give without triggering the gift tax. (That was a number of years ago. But I was so astounded when my mom called me to tell me about it that I blurted it out to everyone who happened to be in the room at the time, which included a handful of guests.)
I spent the early part of last week at home sick with the cold I'd caught but attempted to ignore last weekend. Sore throat, congested head and chest, sleeping a lot, blah. Worked the latter part of the week; perhaps shouldn't have, as Saturday I had a relapse. But Sunday and Monday I was distinctly better, and now have just a rather badly irritated throat left over.
Work is going along quite well. I've got good candidates for about half of the RT-PCRs that I started a few weeks ago, and today I ran out PCRs from liquid cultures that went very well indeed - about 80% success rate, so yay. Another trip to Berkeley is in the works for early next week, assuming I get colonies from the Topo clonings I set up from some of those PCRs today.
I have been a good stimulator of the economy recently. I'd decided sometime in summer that I wanted some in-ear earbuds for plane trips, as my current bulky over-ear models were distinctly unwieldy to try to sleep with. After some hunting about, Huz identified about four different ones in my price range, and I picked these. They have arrived, and I have played sound into them for a couple of days running (based on the advice of a few different reviews). I haven't actually used them yet, but perhaps I'll bring them into work tomorrow and try them. Saturday I went over to Kohl's to use a $10 off card to acquire new sneakers. Sneakers listed as somewhat more expensive than my usual (but worth the extra for the added comfort) came down to the level I usually pay between ongoing sales and the discount card. And this week, once Apple rescinds their offer of "Buy a Mac, get a free iPod Touch!" and puts it back to "Get a larger discount on a Mac!", I will acquire myself a new MacBook Pro. <grin> Part of the reason is to have a laptop on which to do work, Skype, and play games when I travel to Boston. And part of it is that Corin is old and can't do quite everything I'd like him to.. like play Steam games. Heh.
