I just did formal singing practice for the first time in precisely a week!  And it mostly went very well.

I haven't felt like trying to practice for the last week due to Drama With Dad, which made life last week just kind of nasty.  Every evening last week, I put Tazz Cat in the garage for the night, and he's gotten used to having me sing something to him as a kind of tuck-in.  Well, I'd try, but I'd run out of breath and feel almost totally exhausted after every single damn line.  Probably had something to do with my stomach muscles being in a perpetual state of "clench" for several days running.

Then Sunday, I got to church a little early (I was scheduled to read), and our wonderful choir director Matthew came and asked me if I'd like to sing something for offertory.  I said sure, and he introduced me to a short hymn that I'd never seen before, but was quite pretty.  Anyway, singing that seemed to go pretty well - things worked, and I wasn't dead-exhausted at any point.

So I practiced today.  It went well - yay!

Yay!

Congrats! I know how stressful the surprise solo can be. On the plus side, at least it wasn't, you know, "Oops, ___ just got ill. [livejournal.com profile] amethyst73, can you sing for the offertory? I'll play the intro nice and slow to give you a chance to look over the music..."

I'm feeling like it's about time I started singing something besides karaoke again. I may very well join my church choir--it has a nice variety of music. (Keep in mind that in my denomination's arithmetic, "nice variety" means "mostly slavic, but some byzantine", but that's still enough to keep me entertained.) And maybe they'll teach me how to chant!

Glad you got to sing Sunday and it went well. Also glad you're getting to relax a bit from parental-foo.

Looking forward to seeing you and others tonight, but was hoping to get one more week of freedom. I'm going to be missing a great dinner party. Oh well...

Are you going to be there Sept 23? I think I will be missing day.

Sorry about the lack of last-week-of-freedom! Oh well. It'll be good to see you tonight too!

I should be here the 23rd. I will *not* be here Sept 30th and prolly not Oct 7 (we get in late from Boston the night before).

Man, I want more people.

Choir singing is generally a Good Thing. I've done some Anglican chant stuff, and it's fun - don't know how different it is from Byzantine chant, or whatever variety it is that you folks use. :)
