I just got back from the Columbus Day Weekend sale at the local Jo-Ann's.  I've acquired nearly everything needed for my costume now!  The best part?  *Everything* was either on sale or had a coupon applied to it.

Butterick pattern B4597, dress B (the green one in the picture; long sleeves and better neckline than the red one): Perpetual JoAnn sale for $5.99.

3 yards of very neat-looking plant/bark pattern cotton: 50% coupon applied.

2 spools thread that will go with the fabric well: On sale, 50% off.

0.5 yard fusible backing: Ditto.

3 ivy bunches: Ditto.

22" brown all-purpose zipper: 40% coupon applied.

The only things left to acquire that I know of are some seam binding (which I didn't get because it appears there are two varieties - single-facing and double-facing - and I don't know yet which the pattern requires) and some hook/eye fastenings (probably only one needed, and I bet I can get one from my sewing friends at work).

Oh yes.  What am I going to be for Halloween this year?

A poplar tree!  One of the organisms that the Genome Center is sequencing is the Black Poplar, and nobody's done that as a costume yet.
