You remember the stories in the news (I got it off the radio) some months back about how it's a good idea to sterilize your dish sponge every so often by microwaving it for a couple of minutes?

Okay.  So I have this handy-dandy rubber/silicone bulb that I use for nasal rinses.  I've had it for, um, quite some time now, and I've done my best with it by rinsing it with pretty hot tap water.  (We have no dishwasher, which could potentially be used for sterilizaton.)  Turns out that the bulb is rather less resistant to microwave heat than a standard sponge is.  No, I didn't set anything aflame, I just made a really interesting stench and have a (nonfunctional) nasal rinse bulb.  Woops.  Hopefully I've now done my Really Stupid Thing for the day, and won't make any more particularly destructive mistakes.

As the huz said after I told him what happened, "You really shouldn't try to do anything innovative when your brain isn't awake yet."

Sounds like the kind of thing I would do. I hope those aren't too hard to replace!
