Yikes!

Yow!  Three people were (as far as I know) randomly shot this morning out on El Camino, about half a mile from our house, between us and nezumiko .  Non-fatal, but nonetheless, this was literally a little too close to home.  News story is here.

Meanwhile, note to self: 50-ml conical tubes are not compatible with the fixed-angle Sorvall rotor in my new lab.  I think I might actually have known that some time ago; I guess I've been reminded now.

(Anyone know why Firefox 3.0 insists on trying to break URLs if I put them in via Rich Text?  It's really kind of annoying.  The little 'edit URL' box reappears when I add tags or try to post or do anything in the box below the entry area, and insists on putting a 'javascript void' error where the html tag ought to be.)

Speaking of broken links, that link to the news story fails. I had no idea this was going on! When did it happen?

Yeah. I think you're probably okay as long as you stay in the pretty residential neighborhoods, but out on El Camino late at night? No go, please! *hugs*

Do not meddle in the affairs of Sorvalls, for you are squishy and they tend to throw projectiles when they're angry.

Happily, they did not throw projectiles this time. That would have been REALLY bad. Instead, I ended up with four very stuck conical tubes, that's all. Samples were removed to new tubes, and a couple of us worked hard to get the tubes out. No harm done!

Also: yeah, that's kinda scary about the shooting. But then I realized that given how rough parts of my town are, there have probably been a few of those incidents within a half mile of me this year. So I fiddled on google and found out that yeah, there have. *sigh* I love my town, but it's sad that there are rough parts and that I have to avoid them.

Hmph. I'm sorry to hear that.

I knew there were less-good parts of town for us; I just didn't think they were quite *that* close.

Then again, there was the time the escaped murderer took a shortcut through our yard... (nope, not kidding!)
